They were taken along with industrial working class from england, ireland and scotland after the civil war in america. they exually took the bulls and terriers they had with them and mixed it up till they got the new breed they wanted. and that is the american staffordshire terrier

Aggressive training is more likely to result in an aggressive dog. Study up on positive reinforcement training before you get ANY dog. We have two Amstaffs in the family (not same as pit bull). No beating necessary. Ever.
