Hello wolf people 
– this is my third video now for a short series I’m doing documenting my hybrid cub’s growth and I’m also answering question regarding training, animal psychology, etc.
My cub “Gambit” is now 22 weeks old and is already almos the size of our larger German Shepard who is actually the largest German Shepard I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a lot! He’s a big, beautiful, and healthy dog.
Wolf-dogs are a different breed and that must be kept in mind. I urge you to take the time to research the animal before even considering owning one. There’s a great book that I read called “Wolfdogs A – Z!” and it’s a perfect place to start. Remember that they’re not entirely like your other dogs while at the same time they’re by no means the little monsters a lot of people have made them out to be.
Wolfdogs train VERY well, they can be house-broken, heel, leash trained, etc. They’re one of the most intelligent of all the canines – normally operating in a hierarchy with other animals and even your house hold. But don’t worry, you’re always gonna be the alpha and you’re always gonna be the center of their world.Personally, I prefer them over dogs.
Remember to give your animals their parvo shots and heartworm medication!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMPORTANT: IF you’re interested in owning a wolfdog may I please suggest that you read this book? You can get it used for practically a few $’s and it’s just a great introduction on wolfdogs, how to raise them, train them, and of course, their behavior!

I understand what you mean with the cat thing.
Basically, like dogs, they are very loyal, and can be sweet.
…However, they also don’t want to be cuddled constantly, like cats, cats like doing their own business…
Basically, wolves want their own personal freedom, but will not turn on you for it.
They will stay with you til the end if they have to. (also cus you have to be the alpha, do the job right and act like the alpha!)

why hybrids? My uncle kept one when the mom died years ago. He got when it was like a week old and raised it. Now it’s like a dog but its always running around in the backyard and it’s house trained and everything.

@TheXmutt — yes… the house is their home and you all will be thought of as the pack. But this doesn’t mean they will simply attack any new comer – they are very intelligent animals. If they sense you don’t like this strange new person then YOU better watch out. But if you introduce them SLOWLY and over a period of time, they will be fine. OR should be fine. Mind you, different animals have different temperaments!

@HoS777 my wolves are actually high content and I’ve never heard nor experienced what you’ve mentioned. Can you elaborate on ‘ruin them for life’? Are you speaking of something like PTSD for wolves?

You should specify …
You should specify that, if you take a pup out to socialize him, if something freaks him out, he can be ruined for life. It seems you have low-content wolfdogs; the higher-content ones are more difficult to socialize without making them worse.

When it comes to …
When it comes to potty training a wolf/hybrid, I think it’s in the sense that they naturally try not to soil their ‘den’. The house is the den, and by letting them realize that instead of putting them outside all of the time, they make that connection.

@jcinger04 I feed my wolves dogfood, carrots, etc. A regular diet, much like any large dog. They usually leave their mothers around 4-6 weeks old and should be treated for Parvo ASAP! Also remember to keep them on their heart work medicine each month, especially when living in the southern US. And if raised as a pup, they should be fine with your 9 year old

@1983paradox: That sounds excellent, congrats! That’s definitely a career that you will wake up looking forward to each day and of course at that point it’s hardly work. So kudos to your efforts and more. As for beginning with low content wolves, 20-30%, that’s an intelligent move but I’d also like to add that a higher content would still be workable. Just nothing in the 80 – 90 percentile!

Ive been working with high prey drive dogs in protection for years now, but Im finnaly getting the opertunity to work with wolfs this summer in a scancuatary!
Kind of odd, that as a Biology student, and my love and passion for dogs, I just got the chance to interact with wolfs.
truth be told, In the near future, I was thinking of raising a 20-30% content. I dont think I would go higher, first run. and this is coming from a man who has been around large attack dogs

@princessgka – I agree, they are not the same as dogs. This must be understood. In fact the entire training process and interaction with the animals must be altered with a certain degree of respect! A lot of people get bit by these animals while treating them like a dog they once owned. We must remember that they are indeed partially wild creatures! they are not for everyone!

@1983paradox: He’s registered at 74% – trust me when I say that you cannot tell a content of wolf by simply looking at one. It’s genetics. But I will say this, again, that most of us ‘do not want’ a very high content wolfdog as the more wolf they are the more difficult it will be to train and predict their behavior.
