    Why cant you just …
Why cant you just say “good” and give treat instead of buying a clicker?

    in behaviorism, …
in behaviorism, repetition is key. however, you wouldn’t want to reward so much that your reward loses value. Variable interval schedules of reinforcement produce the best results. second question- the closer the reward is to the stimulus the more effective the stimulus will be.

    i’ve never clicker …
i’ve never clicker trained but i am a psych student. i would assume that it would be easier for the dog to discriminate the frequency and volume of the conditioned stimulus if it was the same kind of click every time. dogs seem to generalize well, since people don’t always pronounce specific commands exactly the same way. so i would think fingers would work fine, but the clicker might be slightly better.

    Yes you can use …
Yes you can use finger sounds instead but it’s better to use the clicker.
If you don’t want a clicker you can use a metal cap from juice bottles : )

Can you do it 500 …
Can you do it 500 times a day? How about timing? Can you “click” your fingers within fraction of a second from the behaviour you want to mark?

    Yes, when your dog …
Yes, when your dog is straining the leash, you can say: no! and when your dogs catches your attention and stops straining…you immediately cilck and treat and so on until he understands that when he is not straining he gets a treat.

    Hi,
I have a question. Is it possible to use a clicker to teach your dog not to strain at the leash?

    wait till your dog …
wait till your dog is looking away, then click. If the dog immediately turns around looking for a treat, he knows what’s up.
